Osha Ask is an independent software product and is not affiliated with OSHA or the U.S. Department of Labor. This guide explains how to reach the government agency, OSHA, for workplace safety questions, complaints, incident reporting and small-business assistance.

If you searched for "ask OSHA," "askosha" or "OSHA contact," choose the official route that matches your task. A general question, a request for an inspection and a severe-incident report use different processes.

This guide is general information, not legal advice.

Start With OSHA's Official Contact Page

OSHA's Contact Us page brings together links for questions, complaints, incident reporting and office contacts. The agency lists 1-800-321-OSHA (6742) for safety and health questions, unsafe working conditions, complaints and emergencies. OSHA Contact Us

Use the official page to select the right route before entering information. For an ordinary question, identify the work activity and what you need explained. For a workplace concern, be ready to describe the location and the condition.

Keep the distinction clear when sharing a link with a coworker. The agency's pages use the `osha.gov` domain. Osha Ask's software pages use `oshaask.com`. A product demo request does not contact the government agency.

Ask A General Workplace Safety Question

OSHA provides an Ask a Workplace Safety and Health Question form for safety, health or retaliation questions. The form also links to the process for requesting a letter of interpretation. General form responses are informational; OSHA distinguishes them from its official interpretation letters. OSHA Question Form

Describe the activity in terms someone outside your site can understand. For example, explain whether a ladder provides access to another level or is used for work in place. Identify the equipment or condition involved and the specific point you need clarified.

If you already found a standard, include its section and explain what part of it raises the question. That keeps the request focused. Use the agency's form for the question itself, rather than sending it to the Osha Ask product team.

Find The Office Serving Your Worksite

Use the OSHA office directory to locate federal and State Plan contacts. Select the state and use the office information for the worksite's location. OSHA's state pages identify local contacts and, where listed, the counties served. OSHA State And Office Directory

A project address is more useful here than a company's headquarters address. Construction businesses may work across several office areas. Have the actual site location available when asking which office handles a concern.

If you are unsure which program covers the workplace, use the directory and ask the official contact. State Plans can have their own coverage and requirements. OSHA's State Plans overview explains that system.

File A Workplace Safety Or Health Complaint

Workers or their representatives can file a confidential safety and health complaint and request an inspection when they believe a serious hazard exists or standards are not being followed. OSHA provides online, telephone and written routes. OSHA Complaint Instructions

Follow the instructions on that page and provide clear worksite information. Describe where the condition is, what work is happening and who may be exposed. Use the official process so the concern reaches the agency responsible for reviewing it.

OSHA's online complaint form says not to report emergencies through the form or email. For a fatality or an imminent life-threatening situation, it directs people to call 1-800-321-OSHA (6742) immediately. OSHA Online Complaint Form

A retaliation complaint is a separate process from a safety and health complaint. OSHA's complaint instructions explain both and link to the appropriate filing route. If your concern involves retaliation, review those instructions promptly because filing deadlines depend on the applicable law. OSHA Complaint Instructions

Report A Fatality Or Severe Injury

Official reporting of a work-related fatality or specified severe injury has its own requirements and time limits. Use OSHA's Report a Fatality or Severe Injury page for the direct reporting routes and instructions. 1904.39

Our how to report to OSHA guide explains the difference between those incident reports, routine injury records, annual summaries and electronic data submissions. Every rule and threshold links to an official source.

Choose the reporting process from the event and the applicable requirement. An ordinary question form, a software contact form and an injury log entry do not serve the same purpose as the agency's direct incident reporting route.

Request Small-Business On-Site Consultation

OSHA's On-Site Consultation Program offers free, confidential safety and health assistance to small and medium-sized businesses, with priority for high-hazard worksites. The service is separate from enforcement and does not result in citations or penalties. Employers must correct serious hazards identified through the process. OSHA Consultation FAQ

Use the On-Site Consultation page to find the program and request assistance. Consultants help identify hazards and advise on safety programs and applicable standards. OSHA On-Site Consultation

For a construction business, prepare an outline of the work, the site location and the safety questions you want to address. Keep that request separate from a product demonstration: consultation is an agency-supported assistance program, while Osha Ask provides software footage checks.
